htop is a newer program compared to top command, and it offers many improvements over top command. Htop command in Linux system is a command line utility that allows the user to interactively monitor the system’s vital resources or server’s processes in real time. R – running or runnable (on run queue) S – interruptible sleep (waiting for an event to complete) D – uninterruptible sleep (usually IO) Z – defunct (“zombie”) process, terminated but not reaped by its parent. Memory Green : Used memory Blue : Buffers Yellow/Orange : Cache. CPU Blue : Low-priority threads Green : Normal priority threads Red : Kernel threads Turquoise : Virtualization threads. Use Homebrew to install packages that you would otherwise use apt-get for. There is a package manager called Homebrew that is used instead. It uses SHA256 to fingerprint the downloaded instructions as a validity / tamper detection verification check. It’s safe, if you know what you’re downloading. Homebrew on its own acts like a command-line App Store. htop is interactive process-viewer and process-manager for Linux and Unix-like operating system based on ncurses. Top is the default command-line utility that comes pre-installed on Linux distributions and Unix-like operating systems. What is the difference between top and htop? Htop is not an option, as it is unstable on Mac OS and only a small subset of it’s features actually works on a Darwin system, probably because it partially relies on procfs. Start htop at the bash shell on the Mac OS or computer.Open the Terminal app on mac OS and type the following command.You can install htop using the brew command and the procedure is as follows:
